Cock fighting has since long been a traditional hobby in Vietnam which is held in national or local festivals from the North through the Centre & South of Vietnam.
In every fighting, attention of hundred of spectators has been drawn to "cock knights" numbered in pairs. Some, initially often threaten their rivals with fierce look, by their legs strongly & sharply scratching on ground or loud crow as though to show fighting experience. Some, being intoxicated by blood, without sounding out, immediately attack their rivals with successive blows. At many fierce fightings, cock knights knock down their rivals with fatal blows at once or at least make them wounded on heads or craw/crop to escape. Every fighting is excited, every blow is excellent creating dynamic atmosphere by spectators' laughing, shouting. It is very exciting to watch cock-fighting because it releases our tiredness after a hard-working day.
Cock fighting is a leisure hobby so as to cultivate the martial spirit & encourage husbandry development of the Vietnamese people close in a community.
Raising fighting cock requires painstaking care. In order to have an unbeatable knight, the owner has to thoroughly select typical appearances as shape, head, crest, beak, trunk, chest, legs, spur and tail. Of course, each has his own know-how of selection, with specific feeding & training schedule given; but the significant characters being most concerned are a strong trunk, nimbleness, tireless, aggressiveness, capability of fatal blows.
Cock fighting is an interesting leisure hobby to be fond of by many people and well develops in various localities in Vietnam.
In order to introduce this hobby with Vietnamese cultural identity, Department General of Posts & Telecommunications (DGPT) issues the stampset "Cock fighting" with 4 values on 4 postures to be fascinated & called fine names.
