Ornamental birds live in a green and wet primitive forest, secondary forest, restored forest and bush. They are small birds belonging to Sparrow Passeriformes family. Every year, they lay one 3 to 5 eggs from February to June.

Ornamental birds and Sparrow birds are the same family but different species, so they are different characteristic peculiarity. Some mainly eat insects on the ground and others eat small soft and succulent fruits on high branches or top of tree. They have beautiful coloured fur and especial sweet voice with warm bass, high tone, sometime its call is bustling and pleasing that many people are front of and to be raised for ornament in their houses.

     The ornamental birds are little and beautiful, with coloured fur and sweet voice giving an able profit to people who like to feed up for ornament in their houses.

     On 28.9.2000, Department General of Posts & Telecommunications (DGPT) issues the stampset "Ornamental Birds" consisting of 6 values and one block introducing several bird-species which are raised and fed for ornament in houses belong to Sparrow Passeriformes family.


Leiothrix argentauris belongs to Sparrow Passeriformes family and related to Babblers-Timaliidae.

Pitta ellioti belongs to Sparrow Passeriformes family and related to Pttas-Pittidae.

Pomatorinus ferruginonus belongs to Sparrow Passeriformes family and related to Babblers- Timaliidae


Dicrurus Paradiceus belongs to Sparrow Passeriformes family and related to Drongos-Dcruridae.

Melanochlora sultaneo belongs to Sparrow Passeriformes family and related to Babblers- Timaliidae species.

Stachyris striolata belongs to Sparrow Passeriformes family and related to Babblers- Timaliidae.
