The Vietnam Youth Voluteers, an organisation of Vietnamese youngsters, was founded and given initial tasks by President Ho Chi Minh on July 15, 1950.
The organisation has seen three consecutive generations who one by one participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, in opening the new road 559 (Ho Chi Minh Trail) and currently participating in the course of national industrialisation and modernization.
The organisation counts some 200,000 knowledgable youths who boast good health and revolutionary enthusiasm and are willing to go wherever and do whatever the Fatherland needs.
Over the past five decades of evolution, young voulunteers have considerably contributed to the nation's achievements in construction and defence.
In 2000, the Year of Youth, young volunteers have, once again, taken their part in building the historic trail named after beloved President Ho Chi Minh. To live up to the love and trust of the Party, President Ho and the people, they will surely bring into full play their tradition by realising the President's teachings which reads:
In order to introduce Vietnam Youth Volunteers' tradition for the past five decades, Department General of Posts & Telecommunications (DGPT) issues the stampset "50th Anniversary of Vietnam Youth Volunteers" with one value of 400d.
On the stamp is the image of Youth Voluteers with their cheerful look on the front line of anti - US resistance war. Inspite of their lives on the firing-line, they still keep their way all day & night long to take the trucks to the front for the affected South, the socialist of the North with joyfulness whenever the way was opened for the trucks. They felt very glad to hear good news from the front blooming with flowers all the year round. The background of the stamp reminds the fierce scene against which the volunteers had to fight during anti-US resistance war.
