The 2002 FIFA World Cup will take place in Japan and Korea. This is the 17th event of its kind, and the first held in Asia.

In order to greet this great sport event, the Department General of Posts & Telecommunications (DGPT) issues the stamp set "2002 FIFA World Cup". The stamp set consists of two se-tenant models with their denominations of 800d and 3,000d featuring a phase of drastic ball competing between two players on the football ground.
